Alterations and additions sought for Mantra day spa

A development application has been lodged for "alterations and additions to the existing day spa within The Mantra, (51-54 The Esplanade,) Ettalong Beach, located on Level 1".

"The site is pre-approved for a day spa and gym," according to the application prepared by Jeslie Interiors.

"The proposal seeks approval for alterations and additions to alter the site into a full day spa."

The spa will be called "The Bathhouse" and have a staff of four.

The site is located on Level 1 of the Mantra hotel and is zoned E1 Local Centre.

Existing facilities which will remain as is are five treatment rooms, a staff kitchen, male bathrooms, female bathrooms and accessible bathrooms.

The alterations and additions will consist of "a reception-retail-sitting area, a staff laundry, a locker room for customers, showers separate from the existing bathroom facilities, new seating areas throughout the space, sauna room, steam room, private seating suite, six new spas to balcony and new pump room to balcony".

The Bath House will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but will open from 9:30am on all other days of the week.

Closing times will be 6pm on Mondays and Thursdays, 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 3:30pm on Sundays.

The times are yet to be approved by the Mantra.

According to an accompanying document, the Bathhouse will be a "Palm Springs-inspired Day Spa" providing: "Access to hydrotherapy spas, sauna and steam room and beauty treatments including - hot stone massage, spa facial, aromatherapy massage, waxing (eyebrows, lip, chin), eyebrow tinting and spray tanning."

The application states: "The proposed alterations and additions to the existing use Day Spa is permissible in the E1 Local Centre zone and is consistent with zoning objectives."

It claims they are compliant with planning provisions.

"The proposed alterations and additions to the existing use day spa will not result in any adverse impact on the locality and can be comfortably accommodated on the site."

The application is currently on public exhibition for written submissions.

The closing date for submissions has not been published on the council website.
