Gosford take a rugby win
Gosford rugby club travelled to Woy Woy Oval to meet Woy Woy in their round nine game on Saturday, June 22, that most expected to be very close.
However it was Gosford who recorded the victory, winning 36-7.
Played in continual rain, the match proved an exciting clash with play moving from one end of the field to the other, according to Central Coast Rugby Union publicity officer Mr Larry Thomson.
"Both teams put on a good display of rugby despite the conditions.
"Gosford opened the scoring with a try in the fifth minute, and then continued to post points regularly for the remainder of the first half.
"At the 28th minute mark, Gosford led by 17 points to nil, before Woy Woy crossed for their lone try in the match.
"Gosford went on to lead by 31 points to seven at the halftime break.
"It appeared they had the match result secure at that point.
"The second half proved a real arm wrestle.
"Both teams tried everything to post points but there was only the one try scored in the entire final 40 minutes.
"The second half was a very even affair, to say the least."
Woy Woy were best served by halfback Sione Matakaiongo, No.8 Tali Sitani and centre Charles Buckley.
