Christmas tree sale attracts unforeseen demand

The Christmas tree sale by the Rotary Club of Woy Woy attracted unforeseen "incredible demand" to the railway station carpark from 7am on both of the last two Saturdays, December 5 and 12.

"We sold an incredible two days' worth of trees and stands and were all sold out by 9.30am on December 5," said Rotarian Ms Susan Tees.

"We were back again Saturday, December 12.

"This week despite a sudden scud we managed to keep dry and sell all our trees by 8am.

"Once again people were waiting at 6am when we arrived to set up and trees flew off the trailers thick and fast."

Ms Tee said the trees were grown and transported from Colac in Victoria.

They were cut, transported and sold within twp days "so they arrived nice and fresh".

She said customers had co-operated with the process required to meet coronavirus requirements.

"Our customers entered via the entry station, signed the Covid page and then lined up to pay for their trees and exited via the correct lane.

"It made the whole process so much easier for all concerned."

Ms Tee apologised to those who missed out on a tree this year.

"No one could have foreseen the incredible demand that there was," she said.

Half the proceeds of the sale are donated to the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program of Central Coast Family Support Services, and the other half are donated by the Rotary clubs to local charities, Ms Tee said.

New club member Ms Liz Jazwinska is pictured holding a Christmas tree while fellow Rotarian Mr John Regan cuts the trunk to help the tree absorb water and stay fresh for longer.
