Mayor lobbies for Peninsula drainage

Mayor Jane Smith says she has been lobbying local members of parliament for funding for drainage on the Peninsula in the lead-up to the coming elections.

Cr Smith said she had been lobbying for funding for priority projects across the region, including funding for drainage on the Peninsula.

"With both a state and federal election in the next few months, now is the time to push for funding commitments from candidates,'' she said.

She urged residents to speak up to let their wishes known to candidates in the run up to the coming elections.

"We need funding to help maintain the 2176kms of local roads we look after, to build more recreational facilities and create opportunities for our growing community.

"Over the next few months candidates will be out campaigning, attending public forums and making plenty of promises.

"I urge you to make clear to these candidates the issues that are important to you and your community."
