Five golfers win their way to national championship

Five golfers from Everglades Country Club have won their way their way through to be one of 28 teams in a national championship final to be held on the Sunshine Coast in May.

The team consisting of professional Darren Chivas and amateurs Brendan James, Simon Hoyland, John Murphy and Steven Smith, combined for a score of 50.9 to take out the regional final at Kooindah Waters on March 6.

Darren Chivas, who is also Everglades head professional, said his team was thrilled to be heading to the final.

"This is always one of the most highly anticipated events on our club calendar, and we are ecstatic that Everglades is going to be represented at the final," Darren said.

"We can't wait to get to the Sunshine Coast.

"We have heard such great things from others who have been to the final and it will be great to experience the event for ourselves," he said.

The championship final teams will be treated to four days of golf played in full tournament conditions, three social functions and the chance to rub shoulders with greats of the game such as two time PGA Tour winner Craig Parry on the final day's play.

PGA Australia events manager Mr Heath McLeod said: "All teams have won just by getting to the final, having beaten roughly 8750 teams at the local level and 500 teams at the regional final to be one of just 28 teams participating in the championship final."
