Holstein rejects stage criticism
Cr Chris Holstein has rejected recent criticism of the newly erected stage at Anderson Park, Woy Woy.
Gosford Council built the stage as a memorial to comedian, Spike Milligan.
Cr Holstein is the chairman of the Spike Milligan Recognition Committee that is organising the inaugural Spike Milligan Comedy Festival to be held in October.
Cr Holstein said that the stage's existence and location are legal.
"I'm amazed that it has been said that the stage jeopardises the oyster festival," he said.
"It's an absolute joke.
"They're clutching at straws.
"Don't blame the stage.
"Its position and size accommodate the larger, temporary stage (erected for Anderson Park events).
"The larger stage can be positioned alongside it.
"The oyster festival organisers can make use of it," he said.
Cr Holstein rejected criticism that the stage may attract disorderly conduct.
He said that the "disorderly one percent of the population" shouldn't be allowed to dictate the existence and use of public amenities.
"If we have to remove the stage because it may attract (disorderly conduct), then we might as well remove every bloody thing - all playgrounds, for example.
"The other day I noticed handicapped children playing and having morning tea at the stage."
