Students perform in schools showcase

Brisbane Water Secondary College students performed in the Central Coast Schools Showcase at Laycock St Theatre on September 2 and 3.

Eleven year 9 to 12 students from the Woy Woy campus performed a jazz dance, Played Alive, while year 9 student from the Umina Campus, Alison Brooks, performed in a vocal duo, Boys in Boots, with Terrigal High student Leisi Edmonds.

The jazz dance performers were Brook Howlett, Kayla Kennedy, Sherilee Hemers, Hayley Saunders, Megan Purcell, Ashley White, Tessa Nuku, Emily Francis, Ellie Plummer, Melanie Hemers and Samantha Hilder.

Melanie Hemers and Samantha Hilder of Year 12 choreographed the jazz dance.

HSC dance teacher and dance coordinator at the Woy Woy campus, Mrs Rhonda Herdman, said that the students practised weekly during lunchtime over the whole year.

Mrs Herdman said that showcase dance items were selected from the recent Central Coast Dance Festival.

"Sally and Leisi have been performing as a duo for three or four years," she said.

They were selected to perform at the showcase from "video audition".

Umina campus dance teacher Ms Nerrida Lewis said: "Sally is very talented.

"She does a lot outside of school - acting, drama, and singing."
