Late entry wins Pro-Am comp
The Everglades Country Club Pro-Am golf competition has been decided.
Ewan Porter, a last-minute substitute entry, won the major prize with a three under par score of 65.
Ewan was followed, one stroke behind, by a log jam of four other professionals.
Among them was former Everglades junior, Larry Canning, who is a regular participant in the pro-am events.
Everglades resident golf professional, Darren Chivas, raised all of the $16,000 sponsorship for the day and did most of the organisation.
Golf club president John Henry said: "Our green superintendent, Albie Leggett, and his staff worked tirelessly in the days leading up to the Pro-Am to present the course in the best possible condition.
"Despite the effects of the savage windstorm of the previous evening, players would have seen little evidence of the mess that it created.
"Details of all of the Pro-Am results are contained in the Men's Competition results book outside the Golf Office."
Recent golfing achievements at Everglades include a lone hole-in-one by Danny Casey at the 13th hole on Wednesday, July 30.
Several sub-par rounds have been recorded.
They were Darren Chivas (handicap of one) with 39 points on July 26, Tony Lamaro (handicap of four) with 41 points on August 1, Ben Hyndes (handicap of four) with 41 points on August 3, Troy Scott (handicap of four) with 41 points on August 15, Bruce Newlands (handicap of three) with 41 points on August 20, and Luke Johnson (handicap of three) with two consecutive sub-par rounds on August 21 of 44 and August 23 of 42 points.
Rodney Moyes, Darren Walker and Lou Gibbons all recently scored eagles.
