PCYC to open next month

The Police and Community Club (PCYC) in Umina is preparing for its long-awaited opening early next month.

The official opening will be held on February 3 and according to club manager, Mr Tony Johnson, the club will be fully operational on February 5.

He said celebrations would be held to mark the occasion.

The preparation of the club's Osborne Ave building was funded through Gosford Council’s $70 million financial strategy, and the opening will mark the completion of the second stage of the PCYC’s building program.

The club will provide recreational opportunities for the Peninsula’s youth and will host boxing, an internet cafe and games room facilities.

Although specifically designed to cater for youth, the club will be available to all members of the community from pre-schoolers to adults.

The club will be a drug- and alcohol-free environment, under the supervision of a full-time police officer and will provide an information service for youth on law and health issues.

The club’s manager is currently looking for volunteer and casual staff.
