Pre-school students join in National Tree Day planting
The Grow Urban Shade Trees group celebrated National Tree Day on Friday, July 28, at Guyangil Park with pre-school students planting native plants.
"The children from the Umina Child Care Centre in Australia Ave gathered together at Guyangil Park," said group member Ms Deb Sunartha.
"They were dressed and ready for their celebration of National Tree Day.
"The Grow Urban Shade Trees team gave a little talk about the value of trees for wildlife and insects.
"The students were excited to be able to choose their own native plant and, with a little help and guidance, dug a hole, planted, mulched and watered their plants.
"Each student added their name to their planted native so that they may come back and visit with their family and friends watching it grow and flower.
"One of the aims of these National Tree Day events is to inspire Peninsula families to plant native plants in their garden, or native trees in their verge to enhance our local environment."
