CWA members take out competition awards

Several members of the Woy Woy and Umina branches of the Country Women's Association took out awards during the 2019 Northumberland Group Cookery and Handicraft Competition.

Woy Woy branch president Ms Jane Bowtell said her branch was thrilled for its individual members who won on the day, with the branch so successful that it took out one of the competition's highest honours.

"We won most successful branch overall," Ms Bowtell said.

"Congratulations are in order for Amy who is off to State with her winning strawberry jam and Hilary who will also be entering her first-place date loaf at State as well.

"Wendy and Lesley also both were awarded for their handicrafts.

"Wendy's mohair rug is on its way to State and Lesley's crocheted blanket is making its way to The Land competition."

Umina also had several members excel in various categories.

Branch president Ms Rikki McIntosh said: "Fiona had first places for both her chocolate sponge and honey jumbles.

"Brooke had firsts for her lime buttermilk and her donna latter and Kay received a highly commended for her gluten free lamington fingers.

"Fiona and Brooke finished the day with an equal third for best exhibitor and overall our members combined efforts saw our branch placed third in the Most Successful Group category, our best effort yet," Ms McIntosh said.
