Local Member opens new buildings
Member for Robertson Ms Deborah O'Neill has opened the new buildings at Ettalong Public School, financed under the Federal Government Building the Education Revolution (BER) Program.
A former teacher herself, Ms O'Neill was back in assembly again, explaining to the children that GFC didn't stand for a "Green Friendly Caterpillar", according to school publicity officer Ms Rowena Newton.
Ms O'Neill told students that the government had decided to undertake a building program in schools to help provide mums and dads with jobs to keep food on the table and to keep the economy afloat.
"Ms O'Neill complimented our school on our well behaved students and innovative programs and resources," said principal Mr Colin Wallis.
"She was most impressed by our students singing the National Anthem and We are Australian.
"All in all, it was a most moving ceremony.
"It was a mighty effort," said Mr Wallis.
Ms O'Neill and guests were treated to performances from the Senior Choir and kindergarten students.
Following the assembly and the official opening, Ms O'Neill and guests toured the new school buildings admiring the new state-of-the-art electronic white boards and the students' work.
The annual school Open Day followed the official opening and all the classrooms from Years K to 6 were open for parents and friends to visit.
Many visitors stayed on for lunch with the children and then enjoyed an impressive showcase of performing arts by students.
