Sheelagh to sing

Umina resident Sheelagh Noonan will be among at least 10 Peninsula residents to perform in the Anzac Eve Concert of the Gosford Philharmonia Choir.

The concert will be held at Gosford High School and will a showcase of the group's work over the last few months.

"I have lived at Umina for three years and joined the Gosford Philharmonia last year, singing with the sopranos," Ms Noonan said.

Ms Noonan said she was a strong supporter of the proposed concert hall.

"It will provide a high quality entertainment space for all of the Central Coast."

The program for the Anzac Eve concert will include Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Peter Sculthorpe's "Small Town", Haydn's Nelson Mass, and the premiere of a work by choir member and local composer Gordon Monro.

It is called: "For Death has Climbed in through Our Windows."

The title comes from the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah, and the work is a setting of verses from the book of Jeremiah.

"Although the words are ancient, their meaning still resonates in today's world," Ms Noonan said.

"The piece is dedicated to the Gosford Philharmonia Choir and to its conductor Philip Rees.

"Small Town" by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe includes a haunting bugle segment featuring The Last Post.

The performance is to be held at 8pm on Saturday, April 24, at Gosford High School Auditorium in Racecourse Rd.
