Band seeks members
Brisbane Water Brass Band is seeking new members and bookings on the Peninsula.
The band which has 20 members, four of whom live on the Peninsula, will perform during Anzac ceremonies at Woy Woy on April 25.
While the band does not march, it will be playing at the Anzac services at War Memorial Park at Woy Woy.
Musicians in the band play cornets, euphoniums, baritones, tenor horns and tubas. The band wants a percussionist and more horns and tubas.
Band secretary Richard Collins said the band needed more of everything.
"We take players of a professional standard, down to people such as myself who only started learning in my 40s.'
"It is a challenge to keep up, but it is a supportive environment."
He said the band was mostly made up of over 40s and they were looking for younger people.
"We take all kinds of people. Some young people would be great," he said.
The musical director, conductor Jonathan Gatt, has won numerous Australia Championships and plays many brass instruments.
The band rehearses at the Kariong hall on Tuesday nights from 8pm to 10pm.
Mr Collins said the band played all sorts of music from Waltzing Matilda to Ampirita Roca and many combined arrangements.
"The aim of the band is to produce good music in a friendly and supportive atmosphere," he said.
The band has performed at Ettalong Beach Club and Peridon Village, and would like to perform at other venues on the Peninsula.
The band takes anyone interested.
They do not hold auditions.
