Solid rugby performance
Woy Woy Rugby Club continued its impressive trial form with a solid performance against Hawkesbury Valley on the weekend.
In a good overall performance, Woy Woy easily accounted for Hawkesbury Valley.
Both teams were finalists in their respective competitions last year.
In a free flowing game, the Woy Woy forwards set the platform with good ruck and maul ball to give the backs plenty of possession.
Players to stand out for Woy Woy were Dave Plunkett, Dave Hendriks, Justin Allan, Tim Moore and Greg Smith.
In the early games, Woy Woy's forwards and backs dominated Hawkesbury Valley lower grade sides.
The forwards led by Cory Gilligan were outstanding, with Chris Chapple, Christian Hobbs and John Rutherford able to withstand any opposition attack.
The backs were led by John Baxter and Nick Richardson who were solid in defence all day.
The Woy Woy Club is in a rebuilding phase and with player depth the strongest it has been for years, according to club officials.
Their juniors have increased by three teams this year to field four junior sides which gives the club a solid platform on which to build in years to come.
Woy Woy has its last trial this weekend against the Wanderers from Newcastle at Ettalong with the action starting at 1pm.
New players are welcome and inquiries should be directed to Ross Hopkins on 0417 828 346.
The Lions kick off their season with a double header against Southern Lakes at Central Coast Stadium on April 10, with First Grade kicking off at 5.30pm.
This will be followed by the first night game of the season on the April 17 against Gosford at Woy Woy Oval, with First Grade kickoff at 6.30pm.
