Umina takes out cricket grand final

Umina has taken out the first grade cricket grand final, beating Kincumber in a thrilling match on Saturday, March 28.

Kincumber was unable to reach the 282 run target set by Umina and was all out for 277 runs, just six runs short of winning.

It has been five years since Umina has won a grand final in first grade.

The last premiership was in 1998-99 against Narara.

Umina's captain Mark Cattley made 66 runs.

Jamie Doran was 65 not out and Warwick Botfield was 32 not out.

Brad Cattley made 26 runs.

Bruce Leslie made 19 and Ben Smith 18 runs.

Kincumber's Shaun Robertson and Scott Jarvis put up a good effort as openers getting 84 and 24 respectively, but in the bowling Umina was also impressive.

Umina's Col Smyth and Ben Smith combined to get Kincumber's Brad Jones for a duck.

Smith and Smyth did it again to take Kincumber's Mark Robertson for duck, but this time it was M Smith who was substituting.

Blake Olsen was caught on just eight runs by Mark Cattley. Smyth bowled.

Captain Mark Cattley said that Smyth's efforts were a highlight of a match along with 65 runs by Jamie Doran.

"He bowled 25 overs with a bad back," he said.

The game was played at Sohier Park, Lisarow.
