Medals for gourmet pies

Local baker Ron Bruns of Bremen Patisserie in Umina has won medals in the Third Queensland Gourmet Pie competition on Tuesday, March 23.

This year there were approximately 1500 entries from all around Australia and Bremen Patisserie brought home five gold and three silver medals.

In the poultry category, Bremen won gold medals for its chicken and mushroom mornay, mango curry, chicken and peanut and korma curry, chicken and asparagus pies, and a silver for its chicken gumbo ya-ya pie.

Bremen's Italian bolognaise and beef burgundy and mushroom pies won gold and silver respectively in the red meat category.

The patisserie won gold in the vegetarian category with its vegetable cheese mornay pie.

And it also won a silver medal for its plain meat pie.
