Hotel moves for rebuild

The Ettalong Hotel has moved across the road to Pacific Ave while construction takes place on its former site at Ocean View Rd.

Mr Greg Hertmanni, manager-licensee of Ettalong Hotel, said that the temporary premises were "much nicer and cleaner than the previous with full air conditioning, TAB facilities, and a glycol beer system.

"We're also trading better," he said.

"Unfortunately, we're not licensed to cater for children."

Construction on the former site was expected to start on Monday, June 16, with the demolition of the existing building.

A four-storey building will be constructed over 11 months and will house the hotel on the ground floor and 14 two-bedroom units on the floors above.

An underground car park will cater for unit residents while the existing beer garden area will be turned into a car park for hotel patrons.

The hotel will include TAB, bistro, beer garden, bar-lounge, and drive-through bottle shop amenities.

Mr Hertmanni said: "The construction will be a major economic boost to the town in many ways.

"We'll probably employ at least four times as many staff."
