Guided tree walk at Pearl Beach
The Pearl Beach Tree Committee gathered on Sunday, April 20, to embark on the first registered tree walk.
The walk went for about 45 minutes with 100 adults and 30 children participating.
A chocolate bilby hunt was also held for the children.
Brochures detailing instructions, a map, and descriptions of each tree are available at Pearl Beach Real Estate and from Lois Westlake (1 Pearl Parade) so the public can take the walk any time.
The short walk was planned to give participants an overview of some of the significant trees growing mainly public places within Pearl Beach.
All of these trees have been listed on Gosford Council's significant tree register, either as single specimens or as stands of trees.
Anybody can nominate a tree on their own or public land.
The benefits of listing are an acknowledgement that the owner of the property actively supports the retention of trees, and trees listed are given added protection by Gosford Council and are included on the heritage register.
Pearl Beach is different from many other hot, shadeless seaside villages.
It has well known history of ecological conservation and numerous residents have chosen to live there because of the trees and the many benefits they provide.
The Pearl Beach Tree Committee is a sub-committee of Pearl Beach Progress Association Inc.
