Tyson helps in SA win

Tyson Saunders, 15, of Woy Woy, attended the Junior National Games for the Disabled in Adelaide from April 11 to 18, as a member of the NSW Junior Wheelchair Basketball team.

Tyson is a member of the Central Coast Wheelies basketball team and was the only Central Coast representative to attend the games.

Although travelling to the games as a member of the NSW team, he filled in for the South Australian team.

Tyson helped the SA team through to the bronze medal play off by beating Victoria in a tight match.

This win for SA ended a streak of 20 consecutive losses.

The SA team lost to Queensland in the play off.

Tyson said: "Although I was a bit nervous, I was happy with it."

Tyson's commitment to and preparation for the games included daily basketball practice, wheeling himself to school daily, exercising his dog on a regular basis and a six-month fundraising effort.

He was supported and assisted by the NSW Wheelchair Sports Association, the Everglades Country Club, Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club and his father.
