History day at The Bays

The Bays History Group of The Bays Progress Association is holding a history day and display at the Progress Association Hall, Woy Woy Bay Rd, Woy Woy Bay, on Saturday, May 3, at 2pm.

The history group has spent the last several years collecting photographs and stories of the area from the earliest days of settlement.

The group is holding a special event at the hall to show its current collection and to encourage local people to learn more about their heritage and history.

Spokesman for the group, Mr Jeffrey Cook, said: "Everyone is welcome to the display and is invited to bring stories, photographs or other material of historical interest and share them with us.

"Very little has been written about the story of The Bays, comprising Horsfield Bay, Phegans Bay and Woy Woy Bay. However many well known names in Brisbane Water have been associated with the area."

The History Group is currently editing the best of photographs and stories for a planned book on the area's past to be published next year.
