BMX and skateboard 'success'
Gosford Council held a bike and skateboarding competition at Umina during Youth Week
Council officer Ms Fiona Miller said: "The day was a huge success.
"The event was the result of a partnership between Gosford Council's community development youth services team and the Umina Beach Action Group.
"Many community members volunteered their help as well as joining the young competitors as spectators of the spectacular tricks and performances by both BMX bikers on the newly refurbished dirt track and in the skate bowl itself."
Ms Miller said: "We had a wonderful day and the torrential rain held off until the competition was just finished."
Musical entertainment was provided by Nathan and The Cookee Crew DJ's and a live broadcast was made by a SeaFM reporter.
A sausage sizzle was donated by B&M Quality Meats Umina, Singletons Butchery, Umina Mall Bakehouse and South Street Fruit Market, and manned by NRG Security and Mother Nature volunteers.
The many prizes on offer were all donated by local businesses, and were presented to the best performers in three age range catergories for BMX and Skate competititors.
They were judged by a panel from Pushy Galore and the Coastal Skateboarders Association.
Further events and competitions are planned, including skate boarding clinics and the creation of a board club for all board related sports such as surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding.
