Doorknock volunteers are sought

The Salvation Army is calling for volunteers to help with the Peninsula doorknock for the Red Shield Appeal which will happen on the weekend of May 24 and 25.

The overall Red Shield goal for the Peninsula is $80,000 with a doorknock goal of $26,000.

Volunteers are asked to give a couple of hours of their time to help with this major fundraising drive.

Funds raised through the appeal help the Salvation Army with their many services, which include support for families in crisis, people who are homeless, young people in crisis, food and support for disadvantaged families.

Volunteers who would like to help with the Red Shield Appeal should simply call the national hotline on 13 32 30 or 4344 1965.

Alternatively, collectors can volunteer via the website at www.salvos.org.au.

The Salvation Army's Mr Rodney Dibley said: "For a successful appeal, we will need approximately 300 collectors on the Peninsula.

"We're encouraging collectors to form teams of four with a driver.

"It's a great social day which is obviously rewarding because you will be making a difference."
