College enters Rostrum contest

Brisbane Water Secondary College (BWSC) students recently took part in a Rostrum Club of NSW heat for a competition called "Voice of Youth" at Central Coast Leagues Club.

On the evening, there were five junior and nine senior contestants representing seven schools from across the Central Coast region.

Alex Beaton, from Brisbane Water Secondary, and Mark Krivo, from Central Coast Grammar, were equal first in the senior heat.

Ms Gail McGrath, representing the Member for Gosford Mr Chris Hartcher, announced the winners and presented the certificates.

There were about 25 people present for the junior competition and about 40 for the senior competition.

In return for nominating students to the "Voice of Youth" competition, BWSC school will receive a free copy of a training video "That Winning Speech"

The video comprises a brief introduction on how to make a speech from a senior Rostrum coach (herself a teacher by profession) plus the "prepared" and "short notice" speeches by the winners of the senior and junior divisions of the National Final of the "Voice of Youth" competition last year.
