PCYC may run Umina hall
Gosford Council will decide tonight (Tuesday) whether to appoint the Umina Police and Community Youth Club (PCYC) to manage the Umina Community Hall.
The council sought expressions of interest from appropriate organisations wishing to manage the hall when the existing management committee advised it did not wish to continue "due to illness and other circumstances".
Three groups expressed interest in managing Umina Hall: Careflight, Umina Police Community Youth Club (PCYC) and Peninsula Christian Life Centre.
After discussing the role of the management committee with a council representative, Careflight decided that it was not in a position to take on the responsibility required at this present time and withdrew its interest.
A staff report stated: "Both the Peninsula Christian Life Centre and the PCYC have high involvement within the community and both would provide a professional service in the running of Umina Community Hall."
It was recommended that the PCYC be appointed "due to staff availability, software set up and cleaning equipment on hand to maintain the facility".
The report stated that all council-owned halls were run by management committees or "Section 355" committees.
"These committees provide an invaluable service to the community and council as there is not the available staff to oversee the running of these facilities," the report said.
