'Non-existent' sharks caught

In pursuit of a safe swimming enclosure at Patonga, we were told in a recent letter from Gosford Council that sharks do not exist in Brisk Bay.

Therefore be assured that a shark proof net is not required.

In the past few weeks large "Bull Sharks" (Black Whalers) have been caught in Brisk Bay.

One had half a dog in its stomach.

The recent fatal attacks by similar sharks on the Gold Coast do not indicate a sudden dietary change for these creatures, as they have featured in most of the attacks on swimmers since the Colonial days.

According to the authority TC Roughly, these sharks frequent estuaries, and the world record for one of these species was caught around the corner (and up the river) at Broken Bay, which incidentally does have a netted enclosure.

If Australia can afford to spend millions of dollars per day to protect us from possible killers 10,000 kilometres away, less than $100,000 could keep hundreds of young Australians safe each summer for 10 years or so, from killers that lurk a mere 100 metres away.
