Logo illustrates area's key aspects

Having seen the Woy Woy logo developed in a competition - and looked at the theory behind the design of each element, I feel the community is staring at a unique composition that illustrates key aspects attracting residents and visitors to the area.

On first impression, I was absorbed by the modern style and technique used in this 1997 winning entry.

To note this logo's development in 1997 is relevant in demonstrating a focal point in all logo or corporate design.

The ability to create a visual which is modern and stylish yet sophisticated - then to have these comments made six years later, shows a youthful thought process and design solution.

One only has to look around at large multi-national companies to see corporate logos are around for decades without alteration to strong concept and initial design.

In any piece of art, the visual impact on first glance is highly important, but to have a rationale behind each individual element down to intricate detail such as seven rays beaming off the sun image to illustrate seven days a week of sun, sand and fun, captivates not only the surface glance, but a viewer's mind.

As a community-based paper, putting forth the views of its people, perhaps it would be beneficial to the area for Peninsula News to run a feature on Woy Woy, presenting the public with the ideas and thought process behind this design piece and now adequately it illustrates the environment depicted.

If local Peninsula businesses within Woy Woy are motivated to use a symbolic logo to bind their identity, then what better than the energetic, vibrant and modern image concepted and designed by local artists Ken and Louise Dyer.
