Costly, inefficient and wasteful - that's democracy
Vic Jefferies, (Peninsula News, October 1) reckons the new involvement of the rank and file of the ALP in selecting their Federal Parliamentary leader, is "costly, inefficient and wasteful".
But, you could say, so is a democratic election, costly, inefficient and wasteful.
Kevin Rudd has chosen a great democratic reform, perhaps for some personal reasons, and as a safeguard against being sacked, but in my mind, it is a great reform.
The involvement of the ALP rank and file in this selection has the seal of the common man and woman, in their assessment, their judgement and their wisdom.
Democracy is not perfect, but the alternatives are horrendous.
