O'Neill seeks Senate seat
Former Member for Robertson Ms Deborah O'Neill has announced her intention to nominate for the Senate following the resignation of Bob Carr.
With a casual vacancy arising in the Senate, Ms O'Neill has thrown her hat into the ring for the seat.
"I intend to nominate for the Senate so I can continue to serve the people of the Central Coast, and those across NSW," said Ms O'Neill.
"Across the state, there are very many people who did not vote for the current government.
"They are people who hold Labor values dear.
"I would like to be a voice for them in the Senate and with my Labor colleagues provide the very necessary scrutiny of the Abbott government.
"Locally, there is not a single Labor member in the State or Federal Parliaments.
"Wall to wall Liberal party is not a good reality for locals on the Central Coast.
"I believe we need a Labor voice in the mix to try to hold back the worst excesses of the cuts the Liberals have in store for our local economy and communities.
"We also need a strong voice in the Parliament to make sure that the new Government is held to account for its promises to our region and across the State of NSW.
"If I am the successful nominee and become a NSW Senator, I would be proud to accept the opportunity to establish a stake in the ground for Labor on the Coast and continue my work for our local community and the people of NSW," Ms O'Neill said.
