PCYC helps clean up Hawkesbury
A volunteer group of seven people from Umina PCYC conducted a litter clean-up at Long Island on the Hawkesbury River on Monday, 14 October.
The task on the day saw volunteers remove unwanted litter from the foreshores of Long Island and transfer several bulk items to Rob Moxham's oyster shed for future bin collection.
The crew from Umina PCYC collected a large amount of polystyrene and plastic bottles as well as larger items including timber boat decking, a school whiteboard, polystyrene surf board, rubber matting, buckets and a car bumper bar.
The area around the Railway Bridge pylon had a large amount of litter with three bags filled with bottles, cans and paper products.
In total, 14 full bags of litter were deposited at the Hornsby Council bins at Parsley Bay.
Areas surrounding the Little Wobby foreshore had larger items including two damaged kayaks, a car tyre and deck chair.
An aluminium boat, still in good condition, was washed up on some rocks suspected from the previous day's windy conditions.
The registration number was photographed and NSW Maritime was contacted.
