More rubbish from mangroves
A volunteer group, consisting of 14 students and four teachers from Brisbane Water Secondary College, participated in a clean-up of Henderson Rd Mangroves and the Northern tip of Rileys Island on Friday, October 18, as part of the Brisbane Waters Foreshore Program.
Local oyster grower Simon Funnel was unavailable to operate his barge for the group due to commitments with the Rural Fire Service, but fellow oyster grower Todd Ellis was able to assist.
The Henderson Rd bulk was loaded with additional litter picked up by the group.
Good peak high tide allowed the IRBs to get in close to the Rileys Island old oyster stash, with smaller oyster stakes and broken timber loaded into the IRBs.
Older trays were broken up by the students to allow for transport back to the Woy Woy ramp.
Six full loads were taken back with Ellis' barge taking the larger bulk trays.
Approximately 100 older stakes still remain to be collected at a later date.
