Objection to misconception

Regarding the report "Two-year LEP for caravan parks" in the June 3 edition, we, the undersigned, would like to object strongly about the general misconception about the people who live in caravan parks and mobile home villages.

Although the age group may average the late 60s, early 70s and most of us are on age or veterans' pensions, our intellectual standards are, if anything, above average as quite a few of us are retired professional and business people.

Also, many have served as qualified tradespeople and public servants.

Most of us owned our own homes before and sold them because maintenance and upkeep became physically difficult.

Also, many widowed ladies felt the need for security and companionship from others in similar circumstances.

The photo appearing with your article does not do our particular village justice. It was taken on a cold, wet, miserable day, from a bad angle and without permission.

We extend an invitation to your journalist to visit us and see what a close-knit, caring community we are very happy to live in.

Editor's note: The news item did not make it clear that the statement in question was quoting the staff report to Gosford Council. It does not reflect the views of this newspaper.
