Ettalong anniversary recognised

Member for Peats, Marie Andrews, has formally recognised the 75th anniversary of Ettalong Public School through a speech in Parliament last week.

Celebrations were held on June 6 and included a street parade and the cutting of the large birthday cake by the school's youngest student, Talisha Orr and one of the original 1928 students, Joyce Morante (nee Adams).

Ms Andrews told Parliament: "The school has progressed from the use of blackboard and chalk as the main tools used in teaching students to the modern day use of state of the art computers.

"In fact, one of the original classrooms has been renovated to accommodate this latest technology."

Special mention was made of a number of persons who had worked to ensure that the school's 75th anniversary did not pass by unnoticed.

These included principal Mr Bruce Donaldson, long-serving teacher Mrs Megan Smith, and P&C executive officers.

The two school captains, Ben and Amy, were praised by Ms Andrews for being such good ambassadors for their school.

The celebrations were attended by about 1000 people.
