Vandalism strategy for lookout
Gosford Council has agreed on a strategy to reduce vandalism at the Mt Ettalong lookout site.
Council's director of works, Mr Stephen Glen, said the lookout reserve had been subject to ongoing and increasing levels of vandalism, anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping.
Council officers had recommended closing the lookout's barrier gate for six months to prevent vehicle but not pedestrian access for a six-month trial.
However, the council decided to leave the gate open and to deter vandals by beautifying the area.
Cr Lynne Bockholt said it was vandalised because it looked awful.
Council would also upgrade the access road and the meeting asked for a report to be brought back to Council.
Council had a regular maintenance program that involved two-weekly visits to remove rubbish and repair damage.
