Schools play host for Olympic camp

Umina and Woy Woy high schools will host young international visitors as part of the Olympic Youth Camp in September.

Participants in the Youth Camp are aged between 16 and 18, from any of 180 countries, and will be in Gosford between September 27 and 30.

The camp is coordinated locally by Gosford Council.

"The camp involves young people from more than 180 countries. They'll spend their first couple of weeks at Olympic events and cultural and environmental activities, and then take part in the 'Aussie Family Visit' for two days and three nights," said mayor Cr Chris Holstein.

"Gosford is one of only 10 towns in New South Wales chosen to host participants of the Youth Camp," he said.

He encouraged locals to get involved in the program to help spread some of the Olympic spirit.

"We've got a lot to be proud of in Gosford City, so I'm looking forward to local families showing off the area to these young international visitors.

"We're keen to hear from interested families with teenage children, as Gosford is billeting 42 participants over the three days," Cr Holstein said.

"Each school has a Youth Camp coordinator, so any families not yet involved can contact the school.

"Similarly, we would love other schools to join in the spirit as we need more host families."
