Smart Energy talk to be held in Umina

A Community Smart Energy talk is planned to be held at Umina Surf Life Saving Club at 7pm on Wednesday, February 21.

It will be hosted by Umina Community Group in partnership with Peninsula Environment Group, Patonga Progress Association and Van Holland energy assessors.

Presented by three panellists, the talk aimed to give insights and practical tips to "help the local community become energy efficient, save money and reduce carbon emissions for a more sustainable future".

It will run from 7pm to 8pm followed by questions and will close by 8:30pm.

Attendance is free, but bookings are required.

The presenters will be Ms Louisa Klopsteins from Van Holland energy assessors, Mr Jo Muller from the Peninsula Environment Group, and Mr Stephen King from the Patonga Progress Association.

Ms Klopsteins will talk about energy efficiency.

She will describe how assessing a home can improve energy usage and be helpful to those renting, as well as owners and people thinking of building and renovating.

"Small changes can improve your home to save money, improve comfort and reduce emissions," she said.

Working in her own company Van Holland Pty Ltd, she is a Nathers accredited assessor and Residential Scorecard accredited assessor and has qualifications in home energy efficiency and sustainability, sociology and commerce.

Mr Muller would speak about Going Solar.

He will look at how to get the best out of a solar system and how to assess if a battery system is worthwhile.

Mr Muller assists individuals in understanding technology and finances in solar systems and in asking the right questions when considering their investment in solar technology

Mr King will talk about community energy trading, and how to tap into the benefits of solar with or without solar panels.

"It can be helpful to owners, renters, businesses and people in strata situations," he said.

Mr King is involved in community trading in Patonga and Pearl Beach using the Energy Local/Powertracer system.
