Umina United defeated in WPL round two
The Entrance defeated Umina United 1 - 0 in round two of Women's Premier League in Central Coast soccer competition.
Mia Hansen's goal was the only thing that separated these two evenly matched sides, earning The Entrance's initial win in their return to the WPL competition.
The game started with Umina establishing an early presence in midfield, especially Hayley Fulwood seeing plenty of the ball and distributing well in the opening 20 minutes.
Despite the strong start, the Reddies began to grow into the game, with midfielders Lisa Bullivant and Tarra Southern starting to gain control, supported by dynamic wing play from Jade Hawes and Mia Hansen.
The first real chance of the match came just six minutes in when Reddies left-back Emily Weston took a speculative shot from distance that went wide of the post.
At the 17-minute mark, Umina nearly broke the deadlock.
A powerful shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper and, with the ball still alive, another goal attempt was thwarted by a crucial goal-line clearance.
Umina continued to threaten and, at the 38-minute mark, they delivered a dangerous cross into the box, but the goal keeper was there to clear the danger.
The second half mirrored much of the first, with both teams locked in an intense midfield battle.
Umina threatened again 25 minutes into the half when Tasha Reid made an excellent solo run to find herself one-on-one with Cara, but the keeper was quick off her line to make another vital save.
At the 30-minute mark in the second period, central defender Ella went down after heading the ball from a goal kick.
She briefly left the field but soon returned to continue her strong defensive display.
With just 10 minutes left, Umina's Tori Sheriff surged forward from 30 yards out and looked certain to score, only for Tara to make a last-ditch tackle to deny the opportunity.
In the dying moments, the ever-dangerous Ruby Watt picked up the ball near halfway, beat two defenders with pace and skill, and got a shot off inside the box that narrowly missed the target.
After an intense 90 minutes, the whistle sounded, and the home crowd was in delight as The Entrance recorded a victory in their first home game of 2025.
Match official was Shane Duarte.
