Dry start to April sees just 21mm of rain

A dry start to April has seen less than one seventh of the month's average rainfall recorded on the Peninsula in the first two thirds of the month.

A total of 20.9mm was recorded by Friday morning, just 13.4 per cent of the April average of 156mm, according to Mr Jim Morrison of Umina.

Rain fell on just five days, with falls of 7.0mm and 7.5mm recorded on April 7 and April 15.

Falls of less than five millimetres were recorded on April 16, 17 and 18.

The rainfall total for the year stands at 410.4mm which is about one third (32.2 per cent) below the average at the end of April of 605mm.

However, in seven of the last 21 years, the total for the year at the end of April was less than this figure.

More details, including daily rainfall figures, are available online at http://penne.ws/Rain.
