Older Women donate to Meals on Wheels
The Deepwater branch of the Older Women's Network has added Meals on Wheels to its list of beneficiaries, with a donation of $730.
"We had Jason Millers from Meals on Wheels speak to our members at our November meeting," said branch secretary Ms Jennifer Brown.
"As a result, we now enthusiastically contribute to their 365 program which provides their wonderful volunteers with money towards their petrol costs as they roam near and far.
"The concept is $1 a day towards petrol costs for each volunteer.
"Our donation to Meals on Wheels was $730 which is our second in this financial year."
Ms Brown said that over Christmas Deepwater OWN had a bumper round of donations to our local food pantries", with $500 each to Mary Mac's Place, the Community Food Pantry at the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Community SOS at the Peninsula Community Centre.
"Christmas is a very busy time for all the food pantries with an escalation in food insecurity especially for families struggling with the increases in rent and mortgage repayments, utilities and supermarket hikes for basic food staples.
"We are so grateful to these organisations for the work they do in our community."
Ms Brown said the branch would hold an Easter raffle on April 9 and 10 at Deepwater Plaza, with the winners being drawn by the Member for Gosford Ms. Liesl Tesch on April14.
An autumn-winter fashion parade was planned for Saturday, May 17, at the Ettalong senior citizens' centre.
