Aged care home makes more use of new facilities
A Woy Woy aged care home is increasing the use of its recently-opened new facilities.
"It has been fantastic to see the new Shores Club House space being used," said Blue Wave Living chief executive Mr Matt Downie.
He said Australia Day celebrations were held in the venue, catering to a large number of residents, using the outdoor kitchen-barbecue area.
"The new cinema space is getting some regular use with the very large drop-down screen for movies.
"Our team is steadily working on using the space more regularly for larger activities and events, for which the space is intended.
"Over the next few months, there will be more happening in the Shores Club House as the team continues to operationalise the area."
Mr Downie said new barriers were going up around BlueWave, in preparation for the next stage of works.
"This next stage will also see us demolish and re-build the Palm Sails central courtyard area.
"This will mean the courtyard will be fenced off for some months.
"Residents who have rooms facing into this courtyard will still be able to access their patios, however the edge of their patio spaces will be fenced off for safety while this work is undertaken.
"There will be some significant noise for the demolition period, as the existing concrete slab is cut up and removed entirely.
"We would advise residents to keep their windows and doors opening onto this area closed during this period."
Mr Downie said the the "BlueWave end" of the new courtyard would have new double sliding auto doors.
"This will lead to a circular seating area framed by a pergola and landscaped planting surrounding this.
"Then it will lead to a large central fully covered roofed space, with tables and chairs."
Another open space would have curved feature walls, with some seating and more landscaped planting.
"We have also ensured there are hard surface access from each residents private patio into the new spaces.
"The end result will be a much more enjoyable courtyard.
"The other significant part of our next stage of works will be creating a central spine linkway from the main BlueWave building, leading into the new central Shores ClubHouse.
"This will finally see the two existing buildings become one.
"There will be exciting new spaces off this central spine, including a new hair salon, a new library, and a dedicated physio-gym room with a large outdoor deck.
"The next stage of works also requires us to establish a temporary laundry set up for several months as we are rebuilding our main laundry area."
