Two extra-curricular dance groups formed
Umina Beach Public School will have two extra-curricular dance groups this year, with the opportunity to perform at the Central Coast Dance Festival.
There will be a Stage 2 dance group for Years 3 and 4 and a Stage 3 dance group for Years 5 and 6.
Students will rehearse during designated break times at school.
Because the festival only permits 22 students per group, the school's groups will be limited to 22 dancers.
"Any students who are interested in joining one of these dance groups are welcome to attend the first few sessions to learn some of the choreography and see if they like it," said school principal Ms Karen Wardlaw.
"After this, we hold auditions to determine which 22 students will be selected.
"Selection is based upon ability to learn the choreography, suitability to the style of the dance, confidence and performance quality.
"Effort, attitude and behaviour displayed during dance sessions and the audition process is also considered.
"Each year, the dance teachers choose different themes and styles of dance for the routines to cater to a variety of interests and to provide different dance opportunities for students at our school.
"Joining the dance group will require students to be committed to attending all dance lessons during designated break times at school and to purchase a dance costume for around $40.
"They will need to be present at school during the last two weeks of Term 2, from June 23 to July 2 for the Central Coast Dance Festival performances."
