Social media purpose 'to enhance positive engagement'
The purpose of Umina Beach Public School's social media page was to enhance positive engagement within the school community, , according to school principal Ms Karen Wardlaw.
It was also to showcase school events and activities, and to celebrate the achievements of students and the school, she said.
"We undertand that not all families use social media and we do not rely on this public platform to share important school information.
"Our main communication pathways include email, newsletter and the Sentral Parent Portal, leaving our Facebook page to be an optional positive public platform to connect and engage with our community.
"We respectfully request that our school community use this page as a forum for positive communication.
"We kindly ask parents and carers to remain positive and productive and constructive and communicating support for our students, staff and school events.
"Positivity fosters a strong community spirit.
"Report concerns privately."
Any specific concerns or issues should be addressed to the school directly rather than by posting on the page, she said.
"This helps us address matters more effectively."
Questions to school staff should be directed via the office.
"It's more effective to communicate directly with teachers or our school admin team.
"This allows for a more thorough and timely response than public discussions on social media.
"While we welcome all positive comments, it is not appropriate to post aggressive, harmful, defamatory or inflammatory comments.
"Any such comments will be deleted."
