Debris cleaned from under Ettalong Jetty

Debris under Ettalong Jetty was targeted by Clean4Shore when it was joined by Ms Lyndi Leggett's Scuba Gym team on Friday, February 14.

Volunteer divers helped the marine clean-up project, removing litter and debris from beneath the jetty and surrounding channels.

"Merky water and a strong current made the task difficult," said Clean4Shore co-ordinator Mr Graham "Jono" Johnston.

"Plenty of beer bottles, soft and hard plastic, metal items, road markings, bicycles, tyres and fishing line were retrieved.

"Larger items including two small vessels, a mattress and metal items could not be raised and will be removed at a later date."

Mr Johnston said it was concerning that most the items were not present four month ago, an indication of the impact of further littering and storm debris at this popular site.

A total of 160 kilograms of litter and debris was offloaded at Woy Woy Tip
