Why not Community Sheds?
In response to the article "Men's Shed opens after six-year wait" (Peninsula News edition 607, 11 Nov 2024), I have long wondered why the Men's Shed movement excludes women.
None of the publicity I have seen about them has ever given a reason or even commented on the fact.
None of the usual biologically-based justifications has been declared, such as for men's health groups, father's groups or sport teams.
This is rather surprising, considering the large amount of government and private funding they have been granted, and the amount of public endorsement they have received.
Is there some undeclared justification?
If not, have they considered opening their membership up to women and renaming themselves as something like Community Sheds?
Not only would that be fairer, but it would also be likely to gain them more members and community support.
