Bill Jackson awarded life membership
The annual general meeting of Ettalong Diggers has elected its former chief executive Mr Bill Jackson to life membership of the club.
The meeting was told that the board had received two nominations for his life membership.
The first nomination was proposed by Mr Eric Daniels, seconded by Mr Kenneth Rowe.
The second nomination was proposed by Dode Simpson, seconded by Mr David Anderson.
The Board approved and supported the nomination and recommended that the members vote in favour of the resolution.
He was presented with his badge, as an acknowledgment of his loyalty, outstanding service, and measurable contribution providing benefit to our organisation during his tenure, by Club chairman Mr John Wood.
"We thank Bill for his significant contribution to Ettalong Diggers," he said.
"Over a decade, he led instrumental change necessary for the future of this club.
"We are eternally grateful for everything he accomplished, and the honour of Life Membership is well-deserved."
The annual meeting also heard that the club had made a profit "from operating activities ... after income tax" of $2,055,489 for 2022-23, compared with $1,350,620 the previous year.
Loan repayments paid for the year totalled $3.9 million.
"Taking the cash operations net profit, adding back depreciation of $1,671,652 and interest paid of $213,868, along with income tax credit of $12,185, our earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) comes in at $3,928,824 or 17.12 per cent," said chief executive Mr Col Murphy.
He reported the club had supported 43 community organisations contributing $345,000 in cash and in-kind donations.
Through the ClubGrant Scheme, $268,000 was distributed to local charities, service clubs and sporting groups.
Bar sales for the year totalled $2,736,465, an increase from 2022 of $1,028,889 (60.25 per cent).
The trading gross profit of $1,628,884 showed an increase of $628,641, a net profit increase of $319,216.
Net poker machine takings for the year totalled $14,928,536, an increase from 2022 of $4,080,842 (37.62 per cent).
The trading profit of $8,2021,487 showed an increase of $2,304,085 (39.07 per cent).
Total catering sales for the period were $3,782,387.
"The trading gross profit was $2,608,432 and Catering generated a net profit of $224,381 which amounted to an increase of $249,922," according to the directors' report.
