Emergency beacon extends lifesaver reach
An emergency response beacon has recently been installed at Pearl Beach by Surf Life Saving NSW.
The beacons are being placed in locations where volunteer lifesavers and lifeguards do not patrol, extending the reach of lifesaving operations.
They allow members of the public, at the push of a button, to be connected to the Surf Life Saving NSW state operations centre.
There a state duty officer will gather important information, issue instructions or provide reassurance in an emergency situation.
They can then call on jetskis, inflatable rescue boats, volunteer callout teams from surf clubs, lifeguards, or helicopter or drone services.
A camera fitted to the beacon can be remotely monitored by the state operations centre to provide operators with situational awareness of the incident.
