Water Watch group starts

A Water Watch group has started at Hastings Wharf, Bensville.

The group will use a donated motorised rubber dinghy to identify potential sources of water pollution and observe geographical features of catchment area, as well as local flora and fauna.

The group was established with assistance from the Central Coast Community Environment Network.

Group members said they were concerned that a petrol station planned for an unsewered site near the wharf may have a negative impact on water quality of Cockle Bay.

The livelihood of oyster growers who had leases in the immediate area depended on good water quality, they said.
