Bike locker use is up

Use of Woy Woy railway station bicycle lockers is 10 per cent higher than it was a year ago, according to Bicycle NSW.

The figures were released after the publication of separate research in the Health Promotion Journal of Australia showed an 18 per cent rise in bicycle use for journeys to work in the Newcastle-Wollongong basin in the past 12 months.

Two banks of lockers at Woy Woy station are managed by Bicycle NSW on behalf of the Department of Transport and accommodate 50 bicycles.

"Occupancy rates fluctuate slightly through the year (and) the current rate is 87 per cent compared to approximately 77 per cent in November 2002," a Bicycle NSW staff member said.
