Kayak business opens shop

A local kayak business has expanded to open a shop in Ettalong Beach.

The Southern Adventures shop offers a range of kayaks and accessories and is staffed by qualified kayak instructors who are able to offer visitors free expert advice

Owner Anton Colenbrander said that, being based near the beach in Ettalong, the shop was an ideal location for potential customers to test paddle any of the wide range of kayaks on the water before making a decision to purchase.

Southern Adventures was established in 2001.

Initially the business consisted of a trailer and eight Canadian canoes but over time these have been replaced with a fleet of over 20 kayaks of various shapes and sizes.

Guided tours take place at various locations throughout the Central Coast and vary in distance but all include basic kayak tuition, a full spread buffet lunch and plenty of fun.

Since its outset Southern Adventures has also offered team-building activities to companies and sporting associations.

These have turned out to be particularly successful and Southern Adventures now boasts a host of corporate clients including Microsoft, Qantas, Sanatarium and Bridgestone.

In 2002 Southern Adventures, recognising their strength in team building, formed a separate business unit called Team Building Australia, which now focuses entirely on the team building activities.

Team Building Australia recently hosted the pre-games team building activities for the 2003 Rugby World Cup referees and management.
