Israeli band performs

Israeli band Sheva performed at Lizottes, Ettalong, on Friday, January 9.

Sheva is a seven-piece world music ensemble that was born on a remote community in the Galilee Mountains of northern Israel in 1997.

Sheva means the number seven.

Their music, which promotes peace, harmony and healing for all cultures, is firmly based on their founding inspiration - the connectivity between the remote biblical landscapes of northern Israel and the ancient Hebrew, Arabic and tribal cultures that survived in the barren environs.

Their songs and chants come from biblical texts, sufi zichers and innovative prayers for peace.

They perform on a variety of instruments derived from Middle Eastern, Asian, African and European cultures, to create an exotic yet universal sound.

Their instruments included traditional Arabic percussion, African Djembe, Lira, Sitar, Persian Santur, Ney, Zurna, Shanai, Drum set and Sampler.

From late December through January Sheva have made their first tour of Australia on the east coast at Woodford Folk Festival, Queensland, Byron Bay, Sydney, and Melbourne.
